I'm rather new to the whole Greek music scene (to the music scene in general) and I had a few questions regarding Greek music and using the keyboard to achieve authentic sounds. I'm open for any sort of reply, opinion, whether its short or long and technical. How has the keyboard, with its wide range, been able to aid the Greek music scene? Secondly, is it fair to say that the keyboard accurately mimics the sounds that would be played by other instruments? I don't know much more than what I've heard from Synthesi (which is quite awesome), and I was wondering if many Greek bands are constructed using the keyboard as a staple instrument? ;D Thanks in advance for replies, and I hope I don't sound TOO ignorant.

Well, the keyboard is a fairly permanent fixture in Greek music over the past few years. Because of money limitations, most Greek keyboard players must imitate the traditional instruments. This makes the function of the keyboard player quite unique among other instruments. We are really the chamelions of the band! The"accuracy" of the sound has to do with the quality of the synthesizer and the technique of the player, mostly.

Ah... that makes sense. It would be quite hard to gather the different instruments needed for a full band, and find people to play them. Keyboards are an economical choice vs. the traditional instruments, and their sounds, as you said, are as accurate as the synthesizer and the player produces. Its really neat to see that so many different sounds and instruments can be put together into a song just by a synth. Do you have a different technique for mimicking each instrument when you play?

Yes, one must have a basic understanding of the techniques and limitation of each instrument when one is approaching the emulation of it. For instance, one would not want to approach a clarinet like a classical piano...it just wouldn't sound right. -Pete

"For instance, one would not want to approach a clarinet like a classical piano...it just wouldn't sound right."Exactly! A lot more goes into it than just buying a synth and knowing how to play a keyboard.
