Yiasas pedia. Can anyone that uses (or has used) Archodis or EMG active pick-ups give me an idea what sort of battery life you get out of them? Which lasts longer ... 9V or lithium?

Danny uses a 9 volt in his emg. I think it lasts for quite a while. I don't see him change it very often.

adoni, i use an emg as well, it all depends how often you plug in, some change it once every 6 months, some once a year.

I have an emg-lithium. I change batteries every six months...with a moderate gigging schedule = 2-3 times a week.

Thanks for the answers guys. EMG-B (lithium) sounds like a possible option for me.
Is it correct that the EMG 9V comes with control knobs (Tone/Volume)? If yes, are these large pots that have to be drilled into the side of the skafos or are they on the actual pick-up somewhere?

The EMG does come with tone and volume pots and they are full size (not on the pickup like the TAP pickups have). You would have to drill holes if you wanted to include the tone and volume controls, but you could also just leave them out. The tech at EMG is very helpful, but very overworked. There is only one tech for the whole company, and he answers all the phone calls and emails. Be nice to him and he will be nice to you. If you wanted to leave them out, you could just email him and ask him for a wiring diagram for the pickup without tone and volume controls. I have heard that the 9 volt versions get around 6 months for average use. I am not sure what average use is. However, remember that the power to the pickup is turned on when you plug in the amplifier cable, so, if you want to conserve battery life (and really, batteries, in the entire scheme of things are pretty cheap) unplug your amplifier cable from your bouzouki.

Hey thanks for clearing that up for me Diplopenia. I'm almost certain I'll end up getting an EMG, just not sure which one. I recently purchased an Archodis passive pick-up but I haven't had a chance to really try it out properly yet. Initial impression is that it has a mellower, softer, sound than my black savvas but I'll withold judgement until I can really give it a good test.
