I know this topic has been discussed in other forums but what the heck , get one started here as well. I own an old tsakirian, a kleftogianni which is about 1.5 years old and Tsolis is a quarter of the way of my new order. The kleftogianni is a monster instrument with a great sound, but I cant wait to hear the tsolis, this man builds awesome bouzoukia at reasonable prices.
What type of bouzoukia do you have in your collection and which is your favorite?

i own a tsolis and in a few months a filippidis...im really excited baout the filippidis because it will be an experiment in extreme bouzouki making with the msot select materials...i mean the materials will cost close to 1000 dollars....so we shall see the outcome...and they will all be exotic woods rarley sue don a bouzouki but with proven sound qualities in many many isntruments.....
however despite all this the design will be very classic ...3/4 figoura...but of coruse exquisitely designed...
ill update everyone as more stuff happens..
the tsolis is a great isntrument...its extremely responsive..sometimes the weather here has tended to muffle the sound..but for the msot part the sound is excellent...very loud..and melodic and has a nice brilliance to its voice as well...

I think it would be awesome to have a double or triple neck bouzouki! Kind of like the "heart" guitar that Steve Vai has. The top neck could be a trichordo, middle neck could be a baglama, bottom neck could be a tetrachordo. www.planetdeville.com/historyp5.htmlAlso, are there any fretless bouzoukia? Jim

Jim Interesting concept! I wonder if someone would attempt to make one. My bouzouki's are made by Kleftoyianni and Varlas. Maybe I'll put that to them. Danny

i remember a few years back when ta paidia tis patras played at a greek festival here, their bouzouki player (who is a speed demon) had a two neck instrument, one neck was for bouzouki the other for guitar, it looked similar to the silent bouzoukia made by dino, sound was not that good but it served its purpose i guess...i cannot remember the name of the luthier though

I don't know if you could get one of the traditional bouzouki luthiers in Greece to do it, maybe somebody in the states that makes custom electrics would do it though. My understanding is that Yiannis Barlas of Zephyros in Maryland has a Kleftoyianni with a very very thick top. It isn't really an acoustic at all. The top is a very thick solid piece of wood, which Yianni wanted to eliminate feedback. The back is a regular skafos just for appearance. The front is sort of a blue denim look with mother of pearl vines, etc. It looks cool. The sound is great (of course it is all amplified so it sounds like however he wants it to sound). I will check it out at the St. Katherine's Festival in June where he is playing.

My first bouzouki was a Rotskos Trixordo, i got it this september... Very nice instrument, not so much decor, but on the other hand i am not a big fan of much abalone. Then i recently got my Kleftoyanni 4 stringer, although the neck isn't as nice as the rotskos, the instrument is a killer, it doens't loose out anywhere, on each fret the notes are kampana. Not to mention the action, which is dead low. I guess i know now why he is as expensive as he is... Danny: Is your instrument a hybrid or do you have a Varlas and a Klefto?

Whats up Guys? Yes I followed you around to the other forums, I am a forum stalker LOL
You are all spoilt with you lovely Bouzoukia... sigh
Me, Im think of getting another 'starters special' at Skederidis, maybe get me a cheapo zouk, and put a morio on the Tzoura...
Just a question: who makes midi bouzoukia, and how much do they cost? I remember someone mentioning one in a thread on Skeezo once.
I need something to enter notes into my sequencer, and I am already better at Boukouki than I am at keyboard playing.
I figure, why learn a whole new instrument just for entering midi notes, which I often did by mouse in the past...

Is there a significant difference in tone between a dougies baglama and its skafto counterpart?
