I use a Yamaha Psr A1000. It gets the job done but I think I need to add another keyboard to my setup. Any suggestions? I am rather new to keyboards as I am a drummer who started playing keyboard two years ago. I also play bouzouki which is my real passion. Great forum might I add.

Elias Yiasou Elias, the Yamaha Psr A1000 is a great old standby. It's got some great rhythms and is a good arranger-type keyboard. I 'love my PSR-3000 and Tyros 2...they really rock for live playing! For a secondary synth, I might suggest something that is good for lead playing...perhaps a K2000 or some of the newer synths. Gem makes some nice things as well...but they are arrangers. I really like the expressiveness of my Yamaha VL70-m...it's a module but you could get a K2000 pretty cheap and use it as a controller. The K2500 is really nice as well. Right now, I really like Yamaha, Kurzweil, and Gem. I used to play Rolands years ago, but I'm not that into them anymore for our type of music. By the way, thanks for joining in on the forum! -Panagiotis

Hey Panagioti,
How are things my friend?
Our keyboard player uses the M1, roland d50 and also uses at times the gem wk2 which has some amazing sounds by the way.
A good friend of mine recently purchased a triton from gonidis keyboard player, I think he paid 800euros with all the sounds in it which are amazing!!
I hope you are well and lets try and keep this forum going.

Hey Yianni...things are going really well, thanks. I love the GEM....great sounds. I've a lot of great things about the Triton as well. I haven't played one, though. Of course, I've used a D-550 rack for years...it finally died...I think the DA converter went bad.

Many people swear by the Triton, I own one and have some phenomenal sounds. The Moss board is great, but the internal PCM waves are somewhat cheap sounding and don't really cut it for me. As base tritons come with only PCM's, shame on Korg. I think I would rather have had a Trinity V3 or Karma(Moss EXB). All Triton pitch benders go bad, and especially for our style this is a No-No. The plastic exterior of the Triton is very Dissapointing. Come on, this is the Flagship Korg, not entry level. What I use on the Job: Yamaha Dx7(Run through extensive effects. Compressor-EQ-Octaver-Phaser-Echo-Reverb) Korg Triton Extreme - Moss Expanded I can switch between Dx7 and Triton for Soloing/Chords/Bass depending on my mood and flavor for sounds. I try to use the Dx7 whenever I can, FM produces a sound no Analog Modeling/PCM wave can compare. From experience, the FM sounds I get are actually Turkish/Gypsie style sounds which are in turn unique because it is maybe the underdog keyboard of greek music. While using the Breath Controller, it is phenomenal. If I need another keyboard for fun, I'll bring the Roland Sh-2000. Just like your Minimoog Pete, I believe this is not replaceable. In addition, I own a Roland D50. Hardly used. I have no 1/4 tones and I cannot load the great sounds from greece because Im running on a Mac computer. I used to own a M1, but sold due to great offer. If I find a rack version however I will pick it up Oh and I have a Korg Sigma. More for sentimental value. It needs major cosmetic repairs and minor internal repairs and until I find someone I can trust, I will leave it as is

Since everyone is sharing I will share my rig.
I use a Roland A-90 Piano Module, a M-audio 25 Key thing for Bass running through a Roland MDB-1 for bass, a Korg Triton Extreme with Moss and breath control, a Korg Sigma, A GEM WS1, and a Casio CZ-101, with a bunch of effects. Then being the Mavro that I am I also run a PC Live (YUK, I need a Mac Book) through a M-Audio 18/14 for more effects and the korg wave station, and M1 plugin along with my M-audio Trigger finger synced to Ableton Live for Drum Machine.
All this is funny becuase I am drummer, and a keyboard player by default. Stupid Drum Machines are replacing us. I program my Drum Loops using Addicitve Drums or Me Actually playing, so its a little better than an alesis SR-16.

I am a drummer that got forced into keyboards as well! I program my styles through a Yamaha Psr A1000 and use a Triton Tr with a bunch of samples. I just got a casio cz-101. How is it for Greek music? I have not even tried to program it yet.

The Casio is a surprising little keyboard.....I've seen some amazing things out of it when it is in the right hands. Also, I've seen guys like Kottis and Amza use it as a controller. Check those guys out on youtube for an example. I've always toyed with the idea of picking one up for fun....they are small enough to take on gigs and an interesting little keyboard.

I know i'm posting a little late... but I'm using: Roland Fantom-X6 Korg TR Yamaha DX7 For my DX7, all I did was a temporary system exclusive dump, and generated by bass sound through the computer. All I use the keyboard for is bass. But I use the other two for leads... has anyone heard anything good or bad about the Roland Fantom X6 for Greek music? I think I might be the only musician using it for Greek music

Hey, if it works for you then use it! I was the only guy I know of that used a Minimoog for Greek music! I'm actually going to add to my rig a Yamaha mu-128 module with the Virtual Acoustic Synthesis card installed. I need more "meat and potatoes" type sounds for my setup.....plus I always got a killer violi sound with the Yamaha VL stuff. I kind of regret getting rid of my Yamaha VL70-M Module....but the output was soooo weak and it was hard to program. My Triton Extreme with MOSS is so much better. I love that d**n keyboard! ;D

Well, i guess so... It has some weak parts about it... Not very good strings.. they are too realistic sounding... and from what i've realized in my experience, is that for greek music, you need cheesy sounds... like cheesy strings, piano, trumpets. otherwise, the sounds are too much in your face. BUT, that doesn't hold true for ALL sounds. Sounds like violins, fiddles, etc, the more real, the better they sound. but, they usually need some tweaking more reverb and some delay, and a little bit of enhancement, and chorus added to the sound to give it some umph! But yeah, my dad uses a Triton Extreme up on stage, and its amazing. i love it... wish i had it.

As an update....I did buy the Yamaha module with the expansion board...but it really sucks! it has some good sounds but overall, it is not very dependable or useful. The strings are not very good at all (which is surprising because my Yamaha Tyros has great strings). In fact, every time I play an outdoor festival, the module starts malfunctioning because of the heat! I need to try something else...probably a Kurzweil module or something.

How are you liking the moss board? I am think of selling my Korg Tr-61 and getting a triton with the Moss board. Right now I am using a klarino sample and it is just not cutting it. It seems like the moss board is a better way to go.
